Taylor, Mich.-based Atlas Oil Co. is among the fastest growing private companies in the nation for the second year running.

Inc. magazine just published its fourth annual Inc. 5000 list and Atlas increased its position by 278 spots to 4,146 overall. In Michigan, where Atlas is headquartered, the company is ranked at the top of the list for 2009 revenues.

“The leaders of the companies on this year’s Inc. 5000 have figured out how to grow their business during the longest recession since the Great Depression,” said Inc. president Bob LaPointe. “The 2010 Inc. 5000 showcases a particularly hardy group of entrepreneurs.”

“Atlas continues to grow because we’ve never taken our eyes off of our customers’ needs,” said Sam Simon, CEO & president of Atlas Oil Co. “Atlas employees are really what set us apart; they are passionate and steadfastly focused on providing our customers the best service in the fuel distribution industry.”

This year also marks Atlas Oil Company’s 25th anniversary. Over the years, Atlas has grown from a one truck fuel distributor to an integrated supplier of petroleum and renewable fuels. Representing six national brands, the company delivers fuel to nearly 400 gas stations around the Midwest. Atlas also delivers hundreds of millions of gallons of bulk fuel each year to commercial fleets, construction companies, mines, utilities, and government agencies. To better meet the growing needs and sophistication of its diverse customer-base, Atlas recently established a supply and trading office in Houston-the liquid fuels epicenter of the U.S.
