Atlas Oil Co., a c-store and petroleum marketer and distributor in 17 states, is standing tall after being voted by the Detroit Free Press as one of the newspaper’s top employers in the Detroit market.
The 2008 “Top Workplace” list identifies the leading workplaces based upon employee opinions. Atlas emerged as one of the standouts among 191 southeast Michigan companies, ranking fourth among midsize firms.
Atlas Oil takes great pride in its selection of team members, training programs, company culture and its desire to offer an incomparable workplace for its employees.
“This is quite an honor and we are very happy to be recognized among the best employers”, said Sam Simon, CEO of the Taylor, Mich.-based oil company.
“Atlas is a fast-paced, action-packed, goal-oriented company, with an unquenchable thirst for success," said Toni Stafford, vice president of human resources for Atlas Oil. "Team members work hard, love what they do, focus on customers, and have fun in the process. Winning attitudes abound. We recruit, hire, train, retain, and reward the best talent in the industry.”
Atlas’ Core values, "passion, grow or go, pride and image, customer focus, solution driven and do the right thing are not just words on a piece of paper. We believe in them and we live by them,” Stafford added.
Under Simon’s lead, the oil company created Atlas Cares for team members. It’s an Atlas team member sponsored program, designed to make a difference in lives of others while giving back to the community. Through Atlas Cares, team members donate their time, skills and resources to graciously help those that are in need and/or reward those who deserve.
Although, they certainly see the difference that their efforts make in the lives of others, Atlas team members often discover that the greater gift is received by them.
Besides earning numerous bragging rights, as a winner, Atlas is able to use the "Top Workplaces" logo on its recruitment materials, Web site and other company communications.
Atlas also recently launched a new and dynamic customer-focused Web site, company-wide “green” initiative, as well as underwent a large BP gas station acquisition.
