Atlas Oil chooses James Fiene to serve on its company’s executive team.

Atlas Oil named James Fiene as its new executive vice president of retail operations, and a member on the company’s senior leadership team.

Fiene served as the chief operating officer for Open Pantry since 2003. During his time at Open Pantry, Fiene transformed the chain from a convenience store to an upscale convenience market by recognizing the consumer desire for quality food and offerings.

Fiene began his career in the convenience store industry in 1981 as an associate at Super America. After four years, he joined Thornton Oil Company in Louisville, Ky., as a regional manager. He provided leadership for more than 17 years, and worked his way through the company. He was part of the team that doubled the size of the Thornton’s organization from 80 to 160 c-stores.

Fiene received a BA in business leadership from Judson University in Chicago. He has also served on many boards and is a member of organizations such as NACS Show Committee and retail advisory boards. Simon said Fiene will be a “strong addition” to Atlas’ leadership team because of his 30 years of experience in the retail sector.

“I am truly excited about this new opportunity to help Atlas Oil grow its retail business,” said Fiene. “My passion for this industry is driven by a need to reinvent our industry offerings, and most importantly, serve our customers by developing our store team members every day.”

Atlas Oil is a national fuel distribution company, supplying fuel to almost 400 gas and convenience stores throughout Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.
