After 17 months of construction and planning, Buc-ee’s has officially cut the ribbon to its first travel center in Virginia. Located in Rockingham County, the site sits at 74,000 square feet and features 120 fueling positions.
Doors opened at 6 a.m. on Monday, and local news outlet CVille Right Now reported that more than 1,000 customers stepped through the doors within the first few minutes of the store opening.
At 10 a.m., Buc-ee’s cut the ribbon alongside community representatives like Rockingham County Supervisors Chairman Dewey Ritchie, District 4 Supervisor Leila Longcor, and Supervisors Rick Chandler, Sallie Wolfe-Garrison, and Joel Hensley and Rockingham County Manager Casey Armstrong.
“One of the prettiest roads we could ever hope for, I-81 is full of folks coming and going for fun stuff. We are the perfect fun store for their road-trips, and the people of Rockingham County are fun too,” said Stan Beard of Buc-ee’s in a statement.
The new Buc-ee’s is expected to create over 200 jobs, in addition to $1 million a year in taxes on food and beverages alone.
Quickly Expanding to New Markets
Buc-ee’s wasted no time hitting its next market, as less than a month ago, the retailer opened its first store in Mississippi.
Located in Harrison County, the site stands at 74,000 square feet, with 120 fueling positions and 24 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The grand opening was met with flocks of loyal Buc-ee’s customers, some who even arrived the night before to secure a spot in line, according to local news outlet WLOX.
According to the outlet, the new Buc-ee’s has caused such a stir that Mississippi Highway Patrol has assigned more officers along the I-10 corridor to assist with traffic and any potential accidents.
“Harrison County is a vibrant community with five thriving cities and stunning beaches. It is perfectly situated along I-10 between our Texas and Alabama stores, and we can’t wait to be the best place to stop on the Mississippi Coast,” said Beard at the time.
Looking ahead, Buc-ee’s plans to keep the momentum going in the second half of 2025 as it expands to new states and bolsters its presence in current markets.
