Buc-ee’s has announced plans to open its first store in Wisconsin, according to NBC 5 Chicago. The site would be located in Oak Creek, Wisc., at the southwest corner of I-94 and Elm Road, and is still subject to approval from the city.
In typical Buc-ee’s fashion, the future travel center would stand at nearly 74,000 square feet. It is strategically located 15 miles from Milwaukee and 78 miles from Chicago.
“Buc-ee’s is excited to have the opportunity of adding Oak Creek to our expansion into Wisconsin,” said Stan Beard, Buc-ee’s Director of Real Estate and Development. “We have plan submittals, commission approvals and final city council decisions to be made before we can put a shovel in the ground, and that process officially begins with the Jan. 28 Plan commission meeting. The folks of Oak Creek have been a pleasure to work with, and we look forward to partnering with them for many years to come.”
The store would feature 120 gas pumps and electric vehicle (EV) charging capabilities. The opening is planned for early 2027.
“We are thrilled to welcome Buc-ee’s to Oak Creek, as they choose our growing city for their first-completed store in Wisconsin along the critical I-94 corridor,” said Mayor Dan Bukiewicz in a press release. “This exciting development not only strengthens our position as a key hub for travelers but also brings new opportunities for local businesses and residents. We look forward to seeing the positive impact Buc-ee’s will have on our community.”
Following the City Plan Commission meeting, two public hearings will be held. A public hearing is expected to be held on March 18, when the Oak Creek Common Council will consider a Future Land Use Map amendment and a rezone. The Common Council anticipates a vote on those items that evening.
Founded in 1982, Buc-ee’s operates 50 stores across the U.S., with 35 of them located in Texas, including the world’s largest convenience store. The retailer is known for clean bathrooms, a large amount of fueling positions, friendly service, a unique collection of merchandise and fresh food.
