Buc-ee’s is once again making its way to a new state as it continues its rapid expansion into new markets. The retailer just announced that its first Virginia travel stop will open in Rockingham County on June 30. Doors will open to the public at 6 a.m., and a ribbon-cutting ceremony will follow at 10 a.m.
In typical Buc-ee’s fasion, the new Rockingham County store will boast 74,000 square feet and offer 120 fueling positions. Inside, customers will find Buc-ee’s favorites like Texas barbecue, homemade fudge, kolaches, Beaver Nuggets, jerky and fresh pastries.
According to a statement from the retailer, local leaders attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony will include Rockingham County Supervisors Chairman Dewey Ritchie, District 4 Supervisor Leila Longcor, and Supervisors Rick Chandler, Sallie Wolfe-Garrison, and Joel Hensley and Rockingham County Manager Casey Armstrong.
After the opening, Buc-ee’s will operate 53 stores across Texas and the South. Since beginning its multi-state expansion in 2019, Buc-ee’s has opened travel centers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri, Colorado and Mississippi.
“One of the prettiest roads we could ever hope for, I-81 is full of folks coming and going for fun stuff. We are the perfect fun store for their road-trips, and the people of Rockingham County are fun too,” said Stan Beard of Buc-ee’s.
Buc-ee’s Rockingham County is expected to bring more than 200 jobs to the area, with starting pay beginning well above minimum wage, full benefits, a 6% matching 401k and three weeks of paid vacation.
First Mississippi, Now Virginia
Buc-ee’s wasted no time hitting its next market, as just two weeks ago, the retailer opened its first store in Mississippi.
Located in Harrison County, the site stands at 74,000 square feet, with 120 fueling positions and 24 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The grand opening was met with flocks of loyal Buc-ee’s customers, some who even arrived the night before to secure a spot in line, according to local news outlet WLOX.
According to the outlet, the new Buc-ee’s has caused such a stir that Mississippi Highway Patrol has assigned more officers along the I-10 corridor to assist with traffic and any potential accidents.
“Harrison County is a vibrant community with five thriving cities and stunning beaches. It is perfectly situated along I-10 between our Texas and Alabama stores, and we can’t wait to be the best place to stop on the Mississippi Coast,” said Beard at the time.
Looking ahead, Buc-ee’s plans to keep the momentum going in the second half of 2025 as it expands to new states and bolsters its presence in current markets.
