Refuel Operating Company LLC announced the appointment of c-store consultant and industry veteran John Schaninger as vice president of organizational development. In the newly created position, Schaninger will assist in strategic, operational and functional development for long- and short-term growth objectives.

In his previous c-store role at New Jersey-based QuickChek Corp., Schaninger served for 15 years as vice president, sales and marketing, following a long career in operations. Exiting QuickChek in 2017, Schaninger formed the Schaninger Group, a retail consulting company focused on helping convenience retailers improve their operations.

The new position should keep Schaninger busy. Refuel owns and operates 33 convenience stores in South Carolina, having grown by six times earlier this year when it closed two acquisitions alongside its private equity sponsor, First Reserve. Refuel is pursuing a rapid growth trajectory investing more than $50 million in new-to-industry c-stores throughout the Charleston, S.C., market while actively pursuing additional acquisitions.
Schaninger lives in Bucks County, Pa., and enjoys spending time with his wife, Shelli, and son, Mike, in addition to fulfilling his passions for writing and guitar. He serves on Make-A-Wish New Jersey Corporate Advisory Council.
