Food-based holidays are a great way to promote products and attract new customers.

Convenience stores across the country are celebrating National Hot Dog Day on July 17 with deals, promotions and social media posts.

For example, participating 7-Eleven stores will commemorate the unofficial holiday with $1 Quarter-Pound Big Bite all-beef hot dogs.

7-Eleven customers can take advantage of the hot $1 deal to try a new extra-hot hot dog. The Jalapeño Cheddar Quarter-Pound Big Bite hot dog is ideal for the estimated six out of 10 7-Eleven customers who love spicy food. The limited-time hot dog offers a spicier, cheesier version of the Big Bite, also a dollar on National Hot Dog Day.

“Hot dogs are an American icon during summertime. Whether it’s a baseball game, a neighborhood potluck, or a pool party, hot dogs are always featured,” said Robin Murphy, 7-Eleven product director. “On July 17, 7-Eleven customers can enjoy a Quarter-Pound Big Bite hot dog for just $1 wherever they are.”

Love’s Travel Stops and Schwab Meat Co. have partnered to give customers free a hot dog or roller grill item on July 17, at participating locations in 41 states.

“Our customers are always moving, and love food options that are perfect for on the go,” said Mark Romig, director of merchandise for Love’s. “We’re delighted to meet those demands and show gratitude to Love’s amazing customers on National Hot Dog Day with free items.”

At Pilot Flying J, customers get a free grill item, including 100% all-beef hot dogs, with an exclusive offer in the company’s app.

First-time users also will receive an additional free drink of their choice upon downloading the app.

“Let’s be ‘frank:’ what could be better than a classic hot dog on a summer day? A free one!” said Shannon Johnson, vice president of innovation for Pilot Flying J. “Stop by any participating Pilot or Flying J location to redeem your offer for a free hot dog or grill item, top it off with your favorite fixings and fulfill that craving for a timeless American treat.”

Columbus, Ohio-based Certified Oil is offering Registered Rewards For You mobile app users a free hot dog on July 17 while supplies last. The offer must be activated in the mobile app.

Other c-store chains are using the day to promote their hot dogs and roller grill offerings on social media, such as Athens, Penn.-based Dandy Minit Marts and Altoona-Penn.-based Sheetz.
