San Jose police are investigating an incident at a gas station where a couple used their ATM card to pay for gas and ended up falling victim to a skimming scheme, news stations in that city reported.

The couple said they rarely use their ATM card, and noticed that $1,500 was taken from their bank account shortly after they’d used the card to pay for gas at an ARCO station in San Jose.

Police said the money was probably stolen by thieves who accessed the card information by placing a card reader over the ATM and credit card slot at the pump.

It’s the third incident in that area since March, news stations reported. More then 200 people had money withdrawn from their account after shopping at Lunardis supermarket in Los Gatos, Calif., a case that’s now being investigated by the Secret Service. Prior to that, 80 people had similar run-ins after visiting an AM/PM in Los Altos, Calif.

At the Arco station in San Jose, seven customers claimed they suffered losses for a combined $4,200.
