Torrential rains over the past two weeks have caused floods and mudslides across much of Venezuela, forcing more than 100,000 people out of their homes.

Out of great concern for the victims of this tragedy, CITGO and its corporate volunteer group, CITGO in Action, are leading a drive to raise funds for the people of Venezuela until Dec. 21, 2010.

The money collected will be used to purchase items to help alleviate the suffering of thousands of people who have been left injured and homeless by the devastating floods and inclement weather that continues to make life extremely difficult in Venezuela.

CITGO In Action, working with the volunteer organizations at the refineries, is organizing drives for donations from all of its company employees. All those interested can continue to donate generously via checks, money orders and online through the foundation’s Web site: www.simonbolivarfoundation.org.  The foundation is matching one-for-one the monetary donations from CITGO employees, marketers, partners, suppliers, customers and others willing to help.

To date, CITGO has purchased and delivered relief shelters, tents, blankets, sheets, cots and radios. It is estimated that 24,000 people will benefit as a result of the company’s efforts.

CITGO, based in Houston, is a refiner, transporter and marketer of transportation fuels, lubricants, petrochemicals and other industrial products.  The company is owned by PDV America Inc., an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A., the national oil company of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
