Now in its 17th year, the annual initiative has helped collect more than 587 tons of electronic waste.

CITGO recently hosted hundreds of southwest Louisiana residents for its annual CITGO E-Recycle Day at the West-Cal Arena & Events Center.

Residents took advantage of this opportunity to responsibly dispose of their unwanted electronics at no cost. Items collected included computers, printers, fax machines, TVs, sound equipment, landline and cell phones, tablets, gaming consoles and more. The event saw a steady stream of nearly 400 vehicles, with collections filling six extra-large roll-off boxes — equivalent to four semitrailers. Notably, participants recycled 394 light bulbs and several items containing mercury.

“We are pleased to have hosted this event for 17 years, during which we have collected more than 587 tons of electronic waste,” said Sterling Neblett, CITGO Lake Charles vice president and general manager. “This event emphasizes our commitment to environmental responsibility and proper waste disposal. We are thrilled to see our community actively participating in recycling efforts and helping to keep hazardous materials out of landfills.”

CITGO E-Recycle Day alternates annually between the cities of Sulphur and Lake Charles, ensuring convenient access for residents in both regions. Organized by the CITGO Lake Charles Refinery, the event was a success thanks to the support of partners including the City of Sulphur, Hine Environmental Services, West-Cal Arena & Event Center and the City of Lake Charles Wastewater Division.

Rain or shine, TeamCITGO volunteers unloaded old electronics at the 17th annual CITGO E-Recycle Day, showcasing their commitment to environmental stewardship. Each year, TeamCITGO volunteers enjoy the search for relics among the recycled items.
