Fresh & Easy is kicking off the new school year by offering more affordable foods for student’s lunchboxes, including all-in-one meals that sell for just $2.98 each.

Consumers are looking for ways to save money as their children head back to school, but they aren’t willing to sacrifice what they are feeding their children, according to a recent Nielsen’s study.

The study suggests that a drop in back-to-school sales is not expected, but there will be a change not only in where consumers shop, but in the prices they’re willing to pay.

“Consumers may be cutting back in terms of discretionary spending, but they are not about to send their kids to school without the necessities,” said James Russo, vice president of marketing, food and beverage sector, at The Nielsen Company.

Fresh & Easy said it’s offering the perfect all-in-one meals for children, called “Smart Boxes,” which sell for just $2.98 each. The lunchbox includes individual servings of baby carrots, dried fruit, crackers, a cheese stick and an organic drink such as apple juice, milk, fruit punch or grape juice. The boxes are filled with kid-friendly favorites and have different word games on each variety for fun, the retailer said.
