Circle K parent Alimentation Couche-Tard is reportedly putting 36 convenience stores up for sale as it continues to streamline its operations, according to Mass Market Retailers. The sites are located across 14 different U.S. states.
Advisory firm NRC Realty & Capital Advisors, which is managing the sale, stated that 20 of the stores are company-owned and 16 are leased.
Twenty-three of the locations sell fuel, with sizes varying from 4,000 square feet up to 25,000 square feet.
NRC’s Executive Managing Director told Mass Market Retailers that the sites are located throughout the following states: Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Montana, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Alabama, California, Michigan, Tennessee and Virginia.
The sites are being offered without a fuel supply or Circle K branding, with the bid deadline closing on Dec. 4. Interested parties can find more information on NCR’s website.
Integrating GetGo and Streamlining Operations
The 36-store divestment comes at a pivotal time for Couche-Tard as it continues to integrate GetGo stores into its portfolio and make strategic divestments to appease Federal Trade Commission (FTC) concerns.
The GetGo deal, which was announced at the beginning of this year, received clearance from the FTC in late June with the contingency that the chain divests certain stores to even out its markets.
GetGo’s approximately 3,500 employees and 270 locations in Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Ohio and Indiana now make up a new and separate business unit within Couche-Tard’s U.S. store network.
Leading the company as vice president of operations is Mike Maraldo, a 33-year Giant Eagle veteran who has been vice president of operations for GetGo since 2022.
“GetGo has built an extraordinary brand on the strength of a best-in-class food program, an exceptional store experience and a compelling offer activated by an amazing team that is passionate about their customers and communities,” said Alex Miller in June, president and CEO of Couche-Tard. “We are very pleased to welcome them to the Couche-Tard team, looking forward to supporting and enabling their continued growth and success and eager to learn from their insights and experience as we strive to make our customers’ lives a little easier every day.”
Senior operations leaders, as well as management and functional support staff for GetGo, remain based at Giant Eagle’s corporate campus in Cranberry Township, Pa., in a separate, dedicated space. GetGo’s brand, programs and offers will continue, including the popular myPerks loyalty program that it shares with Giant Eagle.
