Customers can scan their own items and pay through an app.

Cruizers Convenience Marketplace, a division of Holmes Oil Company, is the first convenience store chain to offer Skip Frictionless Checkout at all locations.

The Skip system allows customers to scan items with their smartphone as they take them from shelves. Store employees are notified when a Skip user arrives and can monitor their purchases in real time, as well as respond to users’ requests through the app.

Once a customer scans all of their purchases, they finalize payment in the app and leave, thus “Skip”-ing waiting in line.

“Convenience stores must continue to leverage technology; it is imperative that we find ways to serve our customers in a speedy and convenient way,” said Holmes Oil Company Director of Operations Mike Wilson. “Frictionless technology can help with getting customers in and out quickly and provides a different kind of excellent customer experience. Skip helps us give that option to our customers now. This technology gives us the opportunity to have our customers totally walk in, scan their own items, submit payment and walk out without ever interacting with an associate if that is what they choose.”

Chapel Hill, North Carolina-based Holmes Oil Company operates 26 Cruizers locations throughout the state.
