Bartys among five retail members named to board of National Association of Convenience Stores.

Tony Bartys, chief operating officer for Corner Store’s parent company CST Brands, was named to the board of the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) during the NACS Board of Directors meeting at the NACS Show in Las Vegas on Wednesday.

A member-driven trade organization, NACS is led by a 30-member Board of Directors, which includes three retailers from non-North American countries. In addition to lobbying for the interests of convenience retailers in Congress, NACS hosts trade shows and conferences, and provides training materials and workshops for its members.

“NACS’ No. 1 purpose is to be our voice in Washington,” Bartys said. “I look forward to the opportunity to use my skills and experience to help shape the future of the industry.”

A 27-year veteran of the convenience industry, Bartys will sit on the research committee, which analyzes and publishes aggregate data that helps retailers benchmark their efforts against industry norms. Bartys’ appointment represents the first time Corner Store will have a seat at the table as a retailer instead of a supplier since spinning off of Valero Energy in May 2013.

“I think the world is getting to know us better, and this appointment is another way of saying that CST Brands is a retail company; that’s who we are and what we stand for,” Bartys said.

Bartys is among five retail members elected to serve on the Board of Directors:

•  Tony Bartys, senior vice president and COO of CST Brands Inc. (San Antonio, Texas)

  • Anderson Jones, president and CEO of Sprint Food Stores Inc. (Augusta, Georgia)
  • Kyle McKeen, president and CEO of Alon Brands Inc. (Dallas, Texas)
  • Donald Rhoads, president and CEO of The Convenience Group LLC (Vancouver, Washington)
  • Stephen Christopher Spinks, CEO of The Spinx Company Inc. (Greenville, South Carolina)
