Seneca Nation has proposed a new project that has some c-store owners up in arms.
Some mixed feelings are being expressed by small business owners in Niagara Falls, N.Y. as plans for a new Seneca convenience store have been announced.
According to a report from Time Warner Cable News, Seneca Nation plans to open a convenience store that will host 24 fuel pumps on part of the company’s 50 acres of Niagara Territory near the Seneca Niagara Casino in a move to promote development along the Niagara Street corridor. Some business owners have said that the development is much needed in the area, but others have voiced concern that the Seneca store would create unfair competition.
The Seneca station would have the ability to sell products at lower prices than the existing downtown Niagara Falls convenience stores. Some fear that this would put a number of existing stores out of business.
The Time Warner Cable News report also stated that this project from Seneca Nation is not the first one proposed by the company, but the previous proposal was rejected by the state in 2012.
The project is still pending approval from the state, but Seneca Nation has said that construction of the project will begin soon.
