EG Group has announced the appointment of Erik Chalut as its group chief legal officer, effective on June 9.
Chalut is a highly accomplished general counsel with 25 years of experience in leading public companies in the consumer industry. Reporting to Russ Colaco, the newly appointed CEO, Chalut will be based in the U.S., the Group’s largest market by revenue, and he will have a global remit and responsibilities.
Chalut joins from Weber LLC., a leading global manufacturer of outdoor grilling products, where he joined at the same time as its IPO in 2021. At Weber, his responsibilities included establishing and advising on public company governance protocols, recruiting and directing an industry-standard legal and compliance department, and providing strategic counsel as a member of Weber’s Executive Management. Further functions that he oversaw included securities compliance, executive compensation, ESG, litigation and Weber’s subsequent take-private transaction in 2023.
He was previously corporate counsel at Kellogg Company, the iconic Fortune 500 food manufacturer. While there, he was responsible for the company’s M&A, securities, governance and treasury legal functions.
In this role, he provided legal support for transactions including the sale of the Keebler cookie business, as well as complex international joint ventures and acquisitions in emerging and growth markets.
Prior to this role, he was in private practice as a partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP.
“I am delighted that Erik is joining us as our chief legal officer. He is a seasoned professional who brings a wealth of legal expertise and experience in consumer industries to EG Group,” said Russ Colaco, CEO. “The appointment of someone of his calibre is evidence of our ongoing commitment to deliver the best possible corporate governance — including in North America, a market of considerable and growing importance to our business. I look forward to working with him to execute on our strategic priorities.”
“It is a privilege to join EG Group at a time of significant opportunity,” said Chalut. “I was attracted to the company’s innovative proposition, which positions it well to capitalize on future growth opportunities both in the United States, and across its worldwide operations. I am energized by the prospect of working closely with Russ and EG Group’s talented and ambitious management to spearhead further progress.”
