ExtraMile Convenience Stores LLC announced it has reached an agreement with Boise State University on naming rights for ExtraMile Arena.
The agreement is pending approval by the Idaho State Board of Education, which convenes June 16-17.
ExtraMile is a joint venture between Chevron U.S.A. Inc. and Jacksons Food Stores Inc, with more than 800 c-stores that feature a growing offering of healthier food options, along with Chevron gasolines with Techron.
Meridian, Idaho-based Jacksons Food Stores Inc. was founded in Caldwell, Idaho in 1975 as a single-service station. Jacksons has grown to be more than 230 Chevron, Shell and Texaco branded convenience stores in six states. All company operations currently employ about 3,000 associates.
“We believe this is an exciting way to engage the Bronco fan base as we continue to build the ExtraMile brand in Idaho and a great opportunity to support the university and its athletic programs,” said Cory Jackson, EMCS board member and president of Jacksons Food Stores. “Jacksons will be converting the convenience stores at its Chevron and Texaco sites to the ExtraMile brand, with the first rebrand in the Boise market scheduled to open in August.”
Jacksons purchased a 50% interest in EMCS with Chevron in February 2018. Jacksons’ Shell stores will continue to operate under the Jacksons’ brand banner.
“We love the vitality of the new name and think it’s a great evolution for the university and our fans,” said Boise State University Athletic Director Curt Apsey. “We’re especially gratified that John Jackson and his family, longtime BSU supporters, are involved in developing our partnership with ExtraMile.”
New ExtraMile signage will start going up on the arena in late summer, the same time as Jacksons begins converting c-stores at its Chevron-branded locations to the ExtraMile brand.
“This is a tremendous development for all parties – Boise State, Bronco fans, ExtraMile, consumers, everyone,” said Paul Casadont, EMCS president. “Not only are we supporting a top learning institution with a rich and storied athletic program, we are reaffirming our commitment to consumers as we continue to expand the ExtraMile brand in Idaho, Utah and Nevada.”.
ExtraMile Arena is home to Boise State Broncos’ men’s and women’s basketball and gymnastics teams, as well as concerts, sporting and community events. ExtraMile Arena, which has a capacity of 13,390 seats, will also host the first and second rounds of the 2021 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament.
It opened in 1982 as the BSU Pavilion, transitioned to Taco Bell Arena in 2004, and will become ExtraMile Arena this summer upon approval of the Idaho State Board of Education in June.
