The move from Krogers headquarters in Cincinnati to Westborough, Mass., will be effective Jan. 1.

EG America, a subsidiary of U.K.-based EG Group, is moving its headquarters from downtown Cincinnati to Cumberland Farms‘ headquarters in Massachusetts and laying off about 200 employees, according to the Cincinnati Business Courier.

EG America told the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services in an Oct. 31 Worker Adjustment Retraining Notification (WARN) that it is permanently closing its Cincinnati headquarters by Dec. 31, resulting in about 200 employees being laid off, the Courier reported.

EG Group first entered the U.S. market in April 2018 with the acquisition of Kroger’s 762 convenience stores.

The company has continued to expand its U.S. presence with the purchase of 224 Minit Mart stores from TravelCenters of America, 70 stores from Certified Oil and 54 stores from Fastrac. Most recently, EG Group announced the acquisition of Cumberland Farms’ 562 locations, completed on Oct. 22. EG Group now operates nearly 5,400 stores, in nine countries with over 35,000 associates.

On Nov. 1, the company announced it would move its headquarters to Westborough, Mass., where Cumberland Farms is based. The move will be effective Jan. 1, 2020.
