Fresh & Easy has opened its first two stores in Bakersfield, Calif., this week, though four more stores in Kern County are also on the agenda.

“At Fresh & Easy, we offer quality food our customers can trust at budget prices,” said Fresh & Easy CEO Tim Mason. “Particularly in today’s economy, we are excited to bring new jobs that pay well and exceptional food at great prices to neighborhoods in Kern County.”

With the six new stores, Fresh & Easy will have a total of nine stores in that region. All but two of those stores – one in Delano, one in Wasco – will be in Bakersfield.

Fresh & Easy offers Bakersfield residents carrots grown in their own backyard. Grimmway Farms, the grocer’s carrot supplier, is a family run business that supplies all Fresh & Easy stores.

The Grimm brothers began their family business in Kern County more than three decades ago, and today is the largest grower, producer and shipper of carrots in the world. The Grimm family still walking the fields, visiting the processing facilities and performing quality assurance every single day.

“Carrots provide countless health benefits and we take the utmost care in producing high-quality vegetables,” said Phil Gruszka, Grimmway Farms vice president of marketing.
