Majority of states post gas price increases.
The past week has marked one of the biggest increases to the national gas price average so far for 2019.
On Tuesday, Feb. 19, some 28 states were posting pump prices that were up at least five cents over the previous week, with the national average price of gas up six cents over last week at $2.33, according to AAA.
Today’s gas price average is nine cents more than last month, but still 19 cents less expensive than this time last year.
“Motorists are seeing more expensive gas prices as a result of ongoing refinery problems coupled with crude oil prices hitting their highest level so far this year as global crude inventories tighten,” said Jeanette Casselano, AAA spokesperson. “Inventories are likely to continue to tighten and keep gas prices higher through the end of the month.”
Alabama ($2.04) and Mississippi ($2.04) have the lowest gas prices. Michigan (+16 cents) and Oklahoma (+12 cents) saw the biggest increases since last week. California ($3.27) and Hawaii ($3.26) have the most expensive gas.
