Gilbarco Veeder-Root, a provider of payment systems for fuel dispensers and POS systems in the retail petroleum industry, has joined the PCI Security Standards Council as a new participating organization, the company said.

In its new role with the PCI SSC, Gilbarco will help evolve the PCI Data Security Standard (DSS) and other payment card data protection standards.

Endorsed by American Express, Discover Financial Services, JCB International, MasterCard and Visa, PCI SSC requires merchants and service providers that store, process or transmit customer payment card data to follow information security controls and processes to ensure data integrity. The Web site for the organization is www.pcisecuritystandards.org.

Gilbarco will now have access to the latest payment card security standards from PCI and will be able to provide feedback on the standards, as well as become part of a growing community comprising more than 450 organizations.

“The PCI Security Standards Council is committed to helping everyone involved in the payment chain protect consumer payment data,” said Bob Russo, general manager of the PCI Security Standards Council. “By participating in the standards setting process, Gilbarco Veeder-Root demonstrates they are playing an active part in this important end goal.”

“We are committed to helping retailers in our industry attain compliance and protect their customers through affordable solutions at the fuel dispenser and in-store point of sale,” said Scott McDowell, marketing manager of North American payment products at Gilbarco. “Our participation in the PCI Security Standards Council is an important milestone in this mission and we are pleased that our manager of quality assurance and requirements, James Kelly, will be our representative.”
