HalloweenAmericans don’t seem to be cutting back on Halloween shopping in order to save for the holidays.

The holiday season is approaching, and it is getting an early start, this year, as millions of Americans plan their Halloween celebrations.

According to a report from MarketResearch.com, this year, 157 million Americans plan on celebrating Halloween, which will help kick start the upcoming holiday shopping season.

Halloween encompasses many different retail segments, including clothing and apparel, food and beverage and home goods. Total spending on Halloween is expected to reach $6.9 billion in 2015.

Costume sales are expected to reach $2.5 billion. This includes store-bought, homemade and large and small costumes. Families with pets are also expected to shop for their furry friends, and pet costume sales are expected to reach $350 million.

Approximately 93.7% of shoppers plan to purchase candy, which will total $2.1 billion in sales. Last year, chocolate candy reached $217 million in sales. Chocolate candy is the most popular item given to trick-or-treaters.

If Halloween sales meet analyst’s forecasts, we can expect a great start to the 2015 holiday shopping season, including Thanksgiving and December holidays.
