Phil Freeman, vice president of human resources for Sheetz Inc., said he is stepping down after 19 years of service and will be replaced by the chain’s current manager of internal communications, Stephanie Hoover.

Freeman began his career with Sheetz in 1988 as corporate controller in the finance department. He served in that role until 1996, when he was promoted to vice president and controller. In 2000, Freeman assumed leadership over the human resources department.

"It was a difficult decision to leave Sheetz, but I’ve decided to take some time to pursue other career opportunities and interests," said Freeman. "Everything I know about running a business the right way, I’ve learned here at Sheetz. I am so appreciative of everything this company has done for me professionally and personally."

As the new head of human resources, Hoover brings seven years of Sheetz experience to the position. She began her career at Sheetz as manager of human resources for CLI Transport, Sheetz’ dedicated fuel carrier.

"Stephanie brings a wealth of knowledge and ability to her new role," said Stan Sheetz, president and CEO of the 340-store chain in Altoona, Pa. "We’ll miss Phil terribly but we’re excited to begin a new chapter of growth with Stephanie’s leadership in Human Resources."

Hoover is a graduate of Penn State with a degree in Labor and Industrial Relations with a concentration in Human Resource Management. After receiving a law degree from Widener University, she worked for 5 years as a labor and employment attorney. She joined Sheetz in 2003 and last year took on the additional role of leader of the Brand Strategy Department and became a member of the Sheetz Strategic Planning Team, responsible for the long term planning for the company.
