Gas Pump Over WhiteDrivers are getting relief at the pump, but will it last?

The average pump price has fallen nationally for regular unleaded gasoline for 17 consecutive days, providing customers with a total savings of 12 cents per gallon. The national average currently sits at $2.20 per gallon, the lowest price since February, according to a report by AAA.

Gas customers can thank low crude oil prices as well as ample domestic supply for the falling pump prices, which could dip below a $2-per-gallon national average before the end of the year.

Already eight states are posting averages below the $2-per-gallon mark, with consumers in South Carolina ($1.89) paying the lowest amount per gallon in the country. Meanwhile, Hawaii ($2.89) continues to hold the lead for the highest national average price for gas, with California ($2.85) hot on its heels.

Significant year-over-year discounts on gasoline continue. In fact, drivers 45 states and Washington, D.C. are saving at least 75 cents per gallon when they refuel their vehicles compared to last year.
