It’s human nature to avoid change because the path of least resistance is the “same old, same old.” So, how much “pain and suffering” do you suppose  valued employees have to experience before they go searching for a new job? Well, a lot of it has to do with the labor market. When jobs are hard to find, people will put up with a lot and just sit tight. This has been the case for over ten years now.

However, this past April, the number of private-industry jobs waiting to be filled outpaced the number of workers hired for the first time in 15 years. And so, the tide turns once again. Employers nationwide are feeling the pressure to raise wages and while “more money” is the reason most employees give for quitting, it’s seldom the real reason they do.

Bottom Line: The prescribed pain reliever is to give your focused attention to employee retention once again.
