Hy-Vee has plans to stir up competition among convenience stores in the Twin Cities.

Hy-Vee recently announced plans to expand its business to the Twin Cities market.

According to a report from the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, Hy-Vee is looking, not only to bring its full-scale grocery stores to the area, but also some smaller convenience store locations, which will stir up some competition in the local c-store market.

The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal reported that the West Des Moines, Iowa-based grocery chain has plans to create miniature grocery stores that also feature fueling stations. The chain is currently in search of locations to construct these smaller stores.

The smaller store concepts will offer more grocery and prepared food items than the typical convenience store, and plans have shown that the stores with be approximately 10,000 to 15,000 square-feet, Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal reported.
