The drive-through style pick-up location for previously ordered items is reportedly in the planning stages and set for Silicon Valley.
Amazon is looking to enter the brick-and-mortar business, introducing drive-through grocery stores where customers can collect groceries they’ve purchased online, according to reports from the Silicon Valley Business Journal and CNBC Online. The first location is expected to open in Silicon Valley.
If confirmed, the project could result in a new distribution strategy for Amazon. Amazon’s first location appears to be Sunnyvale. There plans have been submitted by a real estate developer for a new 11,600-square-foot building and grocery pickup area at 777 Sunnyvale Saratoga Road, Silicon Valley Business Journal reported.
Why is Amazon thinking of expanding from online stores to physical stores? One reason could be the impact it will have on perishable products, which remain a challenge to deliver in a timely manner.
Amazon continues to look into drone deliveries but until the future is officially here with drone grocery deliveries, brick- and-mortar stores appear a potential solution.
