Kum&GosquareKum & Go has big plans for future stores.

Kum & Go, a convenience store chain headquartered in West Des Moines, Iowa, has announced a  prototype for its future stores.

The new prototype will begin construction this August, and is expected to be completed by the year’s end.

According to a report by The Des Moines Register, the company plans to build the  prototype in Johnston, Iowa. The new store will measure 6,000-square-feet, and will feature a patio and an expanded prepared foods section.

In order to construct the new store, the company will need to tear down an older store and replace it with the new store. The store that is to be replaced is located at 5225 N.W. 86th St., and the adjoining property, which is also owned by Kum & Go, will also be utilized in the construction of the new store. The new store will be double the size of the existing store.

In addition to the new store, the company plans to construct a right turn lane into the store on its property, off of 86th street.

Many convenience stores are rebuilding and expanding the size of their new stores, but the new Kum & Go prototype is, on average, approximately 2,000 square feet larger than new convenience stores that are being built. Kum & Go intends to build all of its new stores using this larger prototype.

The Des Moines Register reported that new stores are typically built adjacent to the old stores, allowing the older store to continue business while the new store is being built, but the lot for the new store does not allow for that. There is another Kum & Go nearby, and the company hopes that customers will find it to be a convenient alternative.
