Lyft will also partner with local organizations and nonprofits to provide low-income families and seniors living in food deserts with discounted flat fare rides to get to and from grocery stores.

Lyft plans to launch its Lyft Grocery Access Program in more than a dozen cities in the U.S., and will soon begin rolling out to more markets throughout North America.

Lyft announced Lyft City Works in March, with the goal of improving city life through better access to transportation. One of the key ways the company plans to achieve this vision is by improving access to healthy food through the Lyft Grocery Access Program.

The program started with a pilot in D.C. last year, providing affordable rides to grocery stores for local families. It has since expanded to Atlanta.

Because of its success, Lyft said it will launch the program in more than a dozen cities across the country, and will soon roll out to more markets throughout North America.

Lyft will also partner with local organizations and nonprofits to provide low-income families and seniors living in food deserts with discounted flat fare rides to get to and from grocery stores.

“The Lyft Grocery Access Program is an innovative partnership that aligns with our mission to support strong children, strong families and strong communities,” said Tiffany Williams, Chief Programs Officer at Martha’s Table. “By offering discounted flat-rate rides to three full-service grocery stores and to Martha’s Table Market, the program has helped to reduce the time, transportation and financial barriers to healthy food access.”

Cities included in the national program launch, with more coming later this year, include: Atlantic City, N.J.; Baltimore; Chicago; Columbus,Ohio;  Detroit; Indianapolis; Los Angeles; Miami; Ottawa, Ontario; Philadelphia; Phoenix; Portland, Ore.; Richmond, Va.; and Toronto.
