Mac’s Convenience Stores, Ontario’s largest convenience store operator, has partnered with a digital self-serve innovator to introduce DVD rental kiosks at select Mac’s stores in Canada.

Signifi Solutions Inc. is a digital self-service company that offers digital entertainment solutions through cutting-edge technology. It manages a DVD placement initiative called Movie Spot DVD, which is a Canadian network that’s somewhat akin to the Redbox concept in the U.S.

Movie Spot provides state-of-the-art touch-screen vending at retail locations throughout Canada, including convenience stores, grocers and other retail destinations.

Each Movie Spot holds up to 1,000 DVDs offering 300 or more movie titles. Customers can rent the newest weekly releases as well as other popular rental titles for $1.99 a night.

“We are excited to work with Signifi’s Movie Spot to offer our customers even greater value and convenience,” said George Kioussis, director of merchandising and marketing at Mac’s Convenience Stores. “Today’s time starved consumer demands convenience above all else. We believe this proposition not only offers tremendous value to our current loyal customer base, but it can also become a differentiator in our channel, increase foot traffic and attract new customers.”

Movie Spot is currently available at five Mac’s stores in Ontario. Movie Spot members can also reserve movies online at moviespot.ca to pick up in-store within four hours at no additional charge.

Mac’s C-stores is part of the Alimentation Couche-Tard network, with has 5,416 convenience stores in North America.
