The company held its annual fundraising gala to support the newly-opened Boys & Girls Club in Robinson, Ill.

Marathon recently raised nearly $220,000 to help support the Boys & Girls Club of Crawford County, which officially opened its doors in Robinson, Ill., in January. The funds were raised during the Boys & Girls Club of Crawford County Gala.

Now in its second year, the annual gala has quickly become a cornerstone event for the community. The inaugural fundraiser in 2024 gave a major boost to years of planning and fundraising to bring the Boys & Girls Clubs of America to Crawford County. This year’s event built on that success, surpassing the $140,000 raised in its first year. More than 250 people attended, including local businesses, civic leaders and community members, all committed to helping the club grow and thrive.

“It’s amazing to see the way this community shows up,” said Amy Macak, vice president of refining at Marathon Petroleum’s Robinson refinery and a member of the club’s advisory board. “From the very beginning, so many people have believed in this project and it’s incredible to see the impact it’s already making for local kids and their families.”

The Robinson refinery has been a dedicated supporter of the Boys & Girls Club of Crawford County, working alongside the Boys & Girls Club of Evansville and local leaders to help turn the vision into reality. But the success of the gala, and the club itself, has always been a collective effort, thanks to the many organizations and individuals who stepped up to help.

“The success of this event speaks to what’s possible when businesses, civic organizations and local leaders come together with a shared goal,” said Bill Burke, Crawford County Board Chairman. “This is how a community should work, lifting each other up and investing in the future of our kids.”

Since officially opening Jan. 13, the Boys & Girls Club of Crawford County has enrolled close to 100 kids in its first few months, with attendance continuing to grow. Funds raised from the gala help ensure the club can keep providing essential programs, mentorship and a safe, welcoming space for kids to learn, build confidence and make lasting friendships.

“For our kids, this club is a game-changer,” said Boys & Girls Club of Crawford County Unit Director Matty McCasland. “They’re building strong friendships, gaining confidence and growing in a safe, positive space, academically, emotionally and socially.”

McCasland said the club has been able to charge families just $10 a year, thanks to community support and fundraising events.

“That’s why the gala is so important. It helps ensure we can stay open year-round for the youth of Crawford County,” McCasland said. “Together, we’re helping all kids, especially those who need us most, reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.”
