Marathon Petroleum’s Robinson refinery in Illinois raised more than $236,000 for the United Way of Crawford County in 2024. Robinson refinery employees presented a check to the United Way in January. Through a mix of long-standing traditions and smaller grassroots efforts, employees and contractors are supporting United Way’s programs that provide essential services to local families in need.
From the refinery’s annual golf outing to Mother’s Day Flower Sale, they came together to show that every contribution, big or small, makes a difference.
“The generosity and dedication of Marathon Petroleum’s employees and contractors mean more families in our community will have access to critical resources,” said Barb Shimer, executive director of the United Way of Crawford County. “Their contributions directly fund essential programs, expand services and provide stability for those who need it most.”
The annual golf outing at Quail Creek Country Club was once again the biggest driver of donations, bringing in more than $166,000. More than 430 employees and contractors from the Robinson refinery took part in the two-day event, raising funds that will help expand United Way programs and provide much-needed support to families in the area. Over the past three years, the event alone has generated more than half a million dollars for the United Way of Crawford County.
The Mother’s Day Flower Sale and larger efforts like the United Way Auction and Quail Creek Fundraiser combined totaled nearly $70,000. Robinson refinery employees and contractors continue to find meaningful ways to give.
“Our team is always looking for ways to make a difference,” said Amy Macak, VP of refining at the Robinson refinery. “The way our employees and contractors step up to give is incredible. It’s inspiring to see the real impact these contributions have on families in our community.”
“The support we provide goes beyond dollars raised. It strengthens programs that people rely on every day,” Carly Holscher, human resources systems analyst at the Robinson refinery added. “Knowing we’re part of that is something we’re really proud of.”
Beyond the events, employees gave even more through personal contributions, and with Marathon Petroleum’s corporate match, those dollars provided an even greater boost for the community.
