After acquiring Kum & Go in a landmark deal in August 2023, Maverik is making significant progress on its rebranding efforts, which were first announced in November 2024, nearly a year after the acquisition.
As of today, the retailer has already transformed all of its Colorado and Utah stores, and has started working on sites across Wyoming and Arkansas. The Arkansas rebranding, which kicked off in January, shows no signs of slowing down.
According to East Idaho News, Maverik has begun rebranding 53 Kum & Go locations across Arkansas, starting with stores in the northwest. Now, the retailer has moved on to its next two states — Missouri and Michigan.
In Missouri, Maverik plans to rebrand 54 Kum & Go sites to the Maverik brand, while seven are slated to be transformed in Michigan. The chain also expects to wrap up its efforts in Oklahoma after rebranding 40 stores in the state.
“We are excited to bring Maverik to new customers and bring a consistent experience in new markets for our current customers,” said Crystal Maggelet, Maverik CEO, in a statement. “The new rebrands reflect our dedication to delivering excellent convenience store experiences across fuel, foodservice and inside-store offerings in all our locations from the Midwest to the West Coast.”
Rebranding and Expanding
Maverik is making its name known across the country not just through rebrands, but also through expansion. In September, the company began construction in its 14th state with groundbreakings at two new locations in Kansas. The sites are expected to be operational in the coming months.
“Maverik is focused on expanding in areas that have unmet needs for fuel, great food and adventure,” said Maggelet at the time of the move. “Thanks to the state’s central location, our entry into Kansas positions us to serve even more customers with freshly prepared food, extensive beverage options and exceptional fuel discounts throughout their Midwest travels.”
Located in Garden City, the stores will be open 24 hours a day, including holidays. In typical Maverik fashion, both locations will offer a full lineup of fresh food offerings like burritos, sandwiches, pizzas and more, in addition to bean-to-cup coffee.
Whether it’s a former Kum & Go location or a new-to-industry c-store, one thing is certain — the industry will be seeing a lot more of Maverik in 2025.
