Parker’s recognized for renovation of Philbrick-Eastman Mansion in Savannah, Ga.

Parker’s, headquartered in Savannah, Ga., recently won a Historic Savannah Foundation Historic Preservation Award for the company’s renovation of the Philbrick-Eastman House. Winners were recognized at Historic Savannah Foundation’s annual Preservation Awards Luncheon on May 7.

Under the leadership of company president and CEO Greg Parker, the 15,000-square-foot structure was exquisitely renovated with remarkable attention to period detail. Parker’s moved into the new state-of-the-art corporate headquarters, located at 17 W. McDonough St. in the heart of Savannah’s National Landmark Historic District, in February 2015.

“Parker’s has done a first-class job restoring the Philbrick-Eastman House,” said Daniel Carey, president and CEO of Historic Savannah Foundation. “This project represents the spirit of revitalization that has helped make Savannah a national model for responsible historic preservation.”

Built by Irish-born architect Charles Cluskey on one of Savannah’s original trust lots, the elegant Philbrick-Eastman House features extensive use of stately columns, decorative iron fencing with medallions of famous Americans, elaborate crown moldings, 14-foot ceilings, breathtaking woodwork and original oak floors.

This Greek revival mansion, originally built between 1844 and 1847, stands apart as one of Savannah’s iconic historic structures, overlooking scenic Chippewa Square. Greenline Architecture, Inc. served as the lead architect and Ralph Kuhn of Kuhn Construction Co. served as the general contractor for the renovation project.

“We paid attention to every detail to ensure that the restoration of this treasured Savannah building respects the structure’s history while enabling us to expand our operations right here in America’s most beautiful city,” said Greg Parker, president and CEO of Parker’s. “We felt a deep sense of responsibility to restore this landmark building to its former glory.”

Each year, Historic Savannah Foundation celebrates the best of preservation by presenting Historic Preservation Awards to individuals and organizations whose contributions demonstrate excellence in historic preservation in Savannah and Chatham County. The awards are judged for success in the preservation, rehabilitation, restoration and interpretation of Savannah’s architectural and cultural heritage.

Parker’s has been ranked on Inc.’s elite list of the top 5,000 fastest-growing private companies in the U.S. for three consecutive years and has opened eight new stores over the past year.  Parker’s currently operates 37 convenience stores across the region and employs nearly 500 individuals throughout Georgia and South Carolina. The company completes more than 80,000 transactions daily.
