Could Pennsylvania be the next state to raise the legal tobacco age to 21?
A bill has been introduced by Pennsylvania legislator, Rep. Vanessa Lowery Brown, and it proposes a raise in the age to purchase cigarettes and other tobacco products.
According to a report from ABC 27 News, Brown’s proposal, House Bill 1628, would increase the smoking age from 18 to 21.
The majority of people who smoke begin before age 19, and Brown hopes that increasing the legal tobacco age will decrease the smoking rate in Pennsylvania, which could provide a number of health benefits to the residents of the state.
This proposal comes after Hawaii recently became the first state to raise its legal smoking age to 21.
