cigar association of americaThe cigar industry is celebrating its victory in Pennsylvania.

New legislation levying a tax on a number of tobacco products has been passed by the Pennsylvania Assembly.

According to a report from the Cigar Association of America, the historic tax increase, which amounts to $1.2 billion and includes over $500 million in new tobacco taxes is now on its way to Pennsylvania governor Wolf to be signed into law. The new legislation added a $1 tax on cigarettes, a 55 cent tax on smokeless and pipe tobacco and a 40% tax on vapor products.

However, thanks to the work of the Cigar Association of America and its members, cigars have been excluded from this new legislation; thereby, cigars will, for the time being, remain taxless in Pennsylvania.
