Pilot Flying J has been named a “$25K Gold Sponsor” for Nashville Salutes: A Tribute to Our Nation’s Most Honored Heroes.

The funds raised through this program support the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation’s (CMOHF) Medal of Honor Character Development Program (CDP). The CDP uses a set of curriculum teaching character traits to middle and high school students as they practice academic skills like writing, critical thinking and analysis of complex text.

Nashville Salutes is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Nashville, Tenn. and Middle Tennessee to celebrate and honor the nation’s living Medal of Honor recipients for the values and character they exemplify while supporting their CDP program. Nashville Salutes will host 27 of the nation’s living Medal of Honor recipients as they arrive in Nashville for events scheduled Aug. 6-8, 2015.  Both the Governor and Nashville Mayor have declared the week of Aug. 3-9 as Service and Sacrifice week.

Knoxville, Tenn.-based Pilot Flying J, the largest operator of travel centers and travel plazas in North America, serves as a Gold Sponsor of Nashville Salutes and the Congressional Medal of Honor “Service & Sacrifice” Week, as proclaimed by Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam.

“As an Army veteran myself, I understand and appreciate the sacrifices these heroes have made,” said Pilot Flying J Chairman Jim Haslam. “Pilot Flying J supports our military and veterans through Operation Tank Full of Love, Wreaths Across America, East Tennessee Veterans Memorial Association and the Fisher House Foundation, and our 24,000-plus team members respect and uphold the legacy of our nation’s Medal of Honor recipients.”

“It’s a privilege to be able to give back to our service men and women,” Haslam added. “They do so much for our country, and Pilot Flying J is proud to be able to do something for them.”
