Nestl Waters North America plans to reach 25% recycled plastic by 2021 and 50% recycled plastic by 2025.

Poland Spring announced plans to use 100% recycled plastic for all its still water bottles.

Poland Spring’s efforts are aimed at helping Nestlé Waters North America to reach its goals of 25% recycled plastic by 2021 and 50% recycled plastic by 2025.

“Using recycled plastic helps keep plastic out of oceans and landfills,” the company said on its website. “That’s why we’ve pledged to use 100% recycled plastic across our still water portfolio by 2022, starting with the 1 Liter size. So that every bottle that’s recycled has a chance to become a new bottle. Over and over again.”

Still water bottles under 1 gallon will be made with 100% recycled plastic. Labels and caps are not, though they are recyclable.

The company said its bottles are designed to the standards of Association of Plastic Recycling (APR) to be 100% recyclable, including labels that peel off easily to avoid contaminating the recycling stream.

Bottled water is the top beverage segment in the U.S. The segment grew another 5% last year, according to the Beverage Marketing Corporation in New York.

Poland Spring is a regional bottled water company with a primary market in the Northeast, but it ranks as the nation’s second-largest bottled water company, the group said.

That plastic can be recycled over and over into bottles, reducing the amount of plastic sent to landfills and providing “proof that a fully circular economy is within our reach,” said Fernando Mercé, president and CEO of Nestlé Waters North America, according to The Washington Post.
