Tough economic times mean new opportunities and Road Ranger just found one. The Rockville, Ill., convenience store chain entered into operating lease agreements for 15 Fast Break Food Mart gasoline and convenience stores in the Louisville, Ky., market. The deal increases Road Ranger’s network of travel centers and convenience stores to 88 locations in seven states throughout the Midwest with a total of 25 locations in Kentucky.

This expansion follows the 2007 acquisition of 11 Ameristop sites in the greater Cincinnati area. The new Fast Break sites will continue to sell Shell-branded gasoline products.

In addition, Road Ranger said Jack Helmick, the former owner and prior operator of the Fast Break sites, has taken the position of senior vice president of operations and marketing for Road Ranger. Prior to operating Fast Break, Helmick was the vice president of operations for Thornton Oil and served in operations and marketing management for The Southland Corp., former parent company of 7-Eleven.
