More than $131,000 raised for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Dedicated employees and generous customers from Roadrunner Markets helped to raise $131,441 during the 21st Annual Halloween promotion to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, one of the world’s premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other deadly childhood diseases.

Donations were taken during the month of October at all 92 Roadrunner locations. Customers could purchase special St. Jude Halloween pumpkins for $1, which would be displayed in the store. If a dollar was too much, some locations just asked customers for the customer’s extra change. Other customers donated hundreds of dollars at a time.

“Roadrunner Markets does several fundraisers a year, the St. Jude cause is one that we all believe in, and we have many customers and employees whose lives have been touched by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital,” said John Kelly.  ”All the credit for this astounding fundraising effort goes to our outstanding group of sales associates, store managers and our generous customers.  I am proud to work with people who give so much to a worthy cause.”

The money will be used to support the hospital’s groundbreaking research and lifesaving care, benefiting many children in the Tri Cities, including five-year-old Kellan Good, who was at today’s check presentation.

Her mom Sarah Good, said St. Jude saved her daughter’s life after being diagnosed with a brain tumor when she was four. “We’re just so thankful to St. Jude. I had to quit my job for a year in order to take care of Kellan, and we couldn’t have done it without St. Jude.” Good added, “This money will help Kellan and so many other children like her.”

Although cancer free now, Kellan still goes to St. Jude every three months for an MRI and spinal tap. She has her port flushed at Niswonger Children’s Hospital in Johnson City, (An affiliate of St. Jude) once a month.

This is the seventh year that Roadrunner Markets has participated in St. Jude’s annual Halloween promotion.

Roadrunner Markets is a family-owned business that operates 92 convenience stores throughout Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
