For the second year in a row, Rutter’s Farm Stores made the list of the Top 50 Fastest-Growing Companies in central Pennsylvania, as ranked by the Central Penn Business Journal.

Based on nearly 38% revenue growth over a two-year period, Rutter’s ranked No. 16 among the 50 companies. The company was No. 10 on the list last year.

To make the list this year, for-profit companies had to be based in Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry or York counties, according to Rutter’s, which is headquartered in York County but operates 53 c-stores in six counties in central Pennsylvania.

Parent company Rutter’s Holdings also recently earned a top ranking from the Central Penn Business Journal – it was No. 6 in the 2008 list of the Top 100 Privately Held Companies in the region, with 2007 revenue of $440 million, Rutter’s said.

Rutter’s Holdings also includes Rutter’s Dairy and M&G Realty. Rutter’s companies employ more than 1,400 people in central Pennsylvania, though the chain has plans to hire 200 additional workers in 2009.

About the same time that Rutter’s announced its standings in the Top-50 listing, the retailer also donated $36,500 to benefit the Children’s Home of York, Pa. The money will be used to help renovate a kitchen at the facility.

The contribution to the Children’s Home of York represents a portion of the proceeds from the Sixth Annual Rutter’s Children’s Charities golf outing that was held in May 6. The outing raised more than $91,000 and drew 275 participants, both all-time highs for the event.
