As Rutter’s looks to introduce video gaming terminals, some lawmakers want to restrict new gambling laws.
Rutter’s Convenience Stores has applied with the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to offer video gaming terminals at 20 of its c-stores, according to ABC News.
In October 2017 a bill passed in Pennsylvania allowing the expansion of gambling in Pennsylvania, including but not limited to slot machine-like video gaming terminals at truck stops, according to a report by Lancasteronline.com.
ABC News pointed out that the gaming control board has approved video gaming terminals for other convenience stores. If approved Rutter’s c-stores could have up to five video gaming machines that allow maximum bets of $5 and payouts that don’t exceed $1,000.
But new legislation has the potential to create obstacles. Lancasteronline.com reported that State Sen. Ryan Aument and State Sen. Scott Martin are looking to scale back the part of the law that allows slot-machine-like gambling at truck stops. The two republican senators are introducing legislation that would allow local officials to bar the slot-machine-like games from their municipalities. The legislation would be similar to a provision introduced last year that allowed municipalities to prevent new mini-casinos from opening within their jurisdiction.
