Expansion spearheads efforts to revitalize its hometown.

Rutter’s Farm Stores plans to double the size of its store in York, Pa and build an automatic car wash next to it. The company hopes to break ground on the project in early 2008, pending city approvals.

The 5,000-square-foot store would offer a range of amenities, including Rutter’s Famous Express Deli and Famous Express Grill, an upscale self-serve coffee island, seating, newly designed “best of industry” restrooms, 16 fueling positions and the car wash.

To make way for the expansion, Rutter’s has purchased the former Concentra building on the store’s west side that is vacant, and a building on the store’s south side where Collectors Toys Trains operates (it will stay there through the holidays). Rutter’s intends to raze its existing store and the two purchased buildings to make way for the new store.

“This location is an important gateway to the city of York, and Rutter’s is excited to spearhead this revitalization project,” said Scott Hartman, president of Rutter’s Farm Stores. “We look forward to providing the city with the most up-to-date Rutter’s store possible.”
