Scott Apter, president of Apter Industries received the 2018 NAG Lifetime Award for Convenience Retailing during a dinner Tuesday night at the National Advisory Group (NAG) Conference.
The award was presented during a dinner at the Surf Club at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club in Jacksonville, Fla.
“NAG enjoys a following of small, mid-sized and family-owned convenience store chains and we’re proud that many of our supplier partners share that passion that family businesses are truly the backbone of the convenience store industry. Tonight we’re going to recognized one of these great family-owned supplier companies,” said John Lofstock, executive director of NAG. “Scott Apter is the president of Apter Industries in Pennsylvania and his time in the c-store industry has been a wonderful ride built on dear friendships, a legacy of leadership and an unwavering commitment to philanthropy.”

“The industry has changed dramatically over the past eight decades since Apter Industries was founded, but Scott has remained true to the roots that his family laid out in Pennsylvania in the 1930s,” Lofstock added. “And that’s why we’re so proud tonight to be honoring Scott as the 2018 recipient of the NAG Lifetime Award for Convenience Retailing.”
Last year’s NAG Lifetime Award recipient Bill Kent of The Kent Cos., presented the award to his longtime friend Apter.
“Though out all these years I can’t think of a single person in my life who I think is more generous, more big hearted, more sincere —even though he can joke a little bit too,” Kent said. “Nobody in my life means more to me than Scott Apter. If you’ve spent much time around him you’ll understand what big a heart he does have, how much he’s meant to this industry, how much he’s meant to NAG.”
“This is an industry that is a continuum and it’s such a pleasure to have that. I’m so proud of what NAG has done to bring back the idea that people care about what goes on in the business, what goes on in the industry,” said Apter. “I thank you all for your attention, for your approbation, for this wonderful award.”
