Altoona, Pa.-based Sheetz has announced that it will open its first location in Mount Crawford, Va., on April 30. This marks store No. 872 for Sheetz, and the opening will be met with giveaways and a ribbon cutting ceremony.
Additionally, the retailer is awarding one customer a grand prize of Sheetz for a Year, which includes a $2,500 Sheetz Z-Card. The official ribbon cutting is set for 11 a.m., with various giveaways taking place from 9-11 a.m.
In honor of the new location, Sheetz will be donating $2,500 to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. Customers attending the grand opening can also support the nonprofit by bringing non-perishable items to the ceremony, and be rewarded with a Sheetz-branded bag.
Sheetz will also donate $2,500 to the Special Olympics of Virginia — a program the retailer has been involved with for more than 30 years.
Seeing Success in 2025
Just four months into the year, Sheetz has already made it one to remember. To kick things off, the retailer was included on Fortune’s list of Best Companies to Work For and designated as a Great Place to Work, marking its 10th consecutive year of being included on the prestigious list.
Sheetz was the only c-store named to the list this year, and came in at No. 40. The list, now in its 28th year, recognizes companies that have exceptional workplace cultures and high employee satisfaction.
“We do not take this honor lightly, as being named to this prominent workplace list for 10 straight years reflects our commitment to our employees,” said Travis Sheetz, president and CEO of Sheetz. “As a family-owned and -operated company, the success and well-being of our team members have always been our top priority. They are the face of our brand in every community we serve, and we remain dedicated to providing them with fulfilling careers built on a culture of respect and a shared purpose of caring for people.”
Then in April, Sheetz earned another accolade — being voted the Coolest Thing Made in PA by Pennsylvania Chamber voters for its made-to-order food menu. The retailer beat out Crayola Crayons in the final round to earn the title.
“We are honored and so grateful to be named the ‘Coolest Thing in Pennsylvania,’” said Sheetz Executive Vice President of Marketing and Supply Chain Ryan Sheetz. “Our MTOs have been fueling Sheetz runs for almost 40 years across the Commonwealth bringing value, customization and variety to Sheetz Freakz everywhere — 24/7/365.”
This year’s contest generated more than 65,000 votes in the PA Chamber’s X, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn pages, and amassed more than 500,000 social media impressions, according to a statement from the PA Chamber.
These recognitions occur at a pivotal time for Sheetz, as it continues its rapid expansion west. Sheetz opened its first-ever store in Michigan last year and recently began construction on its second store in the Detroit metro area. The retailer plans to continue this momentum with groundbreakings of more than a dozen Detroit metro locations later this year and into 2026, and remains on track to open 50-60 locations in southeast Michigan over the next five to six years.
