Sheetz Inc. filed a lawsuit in the Portage County Court of Common Pleas yesterday asking the court to review a decision Kent’s Board of Zoning Appeals made concerning the construction of a new Sheetz store, the Daily Kent Stater reported.
The Board of Zoning Appeals in Kent, Ohio, granted Sheetz three of four requested building variances for the site, and Kent’s Planning Commission approved the site design in September, reported The Kent Stater, a student-run publication at Kent State University.
The Board allowed Sheetz to build a higher barrier around the property and place signs on its lawn and facility, but it didn’t allow Sheetz to build closer to residential properties, the publication reported, citing court records.
The decision came on the heels of several meetings and public debates spanning almost two months. The 5,000-square-foot convenience store will replace an auto shop and some apartments at the site, as well as a 102-year-old building housing an art gallery.
