Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-based Stewart’s Shops is expanding its presence in northern New York with the acquisition of three Sliders Food Mart locations.
The deal adds two Stewart’s Shops in Lewis County, located in Harrisville and Croghan, and one location in Jefferson County, in Clayton.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“This expansion is part of Stewart’s commitment to continue identifying communities throughout New York, Vermont and New Hampshire where fresh food, beverages, gas and other essential services are needed to support communities,” the retailer noted in a statement.
Stewart’s, a family- and employee-owned convenience store chain, now operates more than 400 shops in three states.
Coinciding with its Sliders Food Mart acquisition, the chain also just reopened a remodeled location in Oswego, N.Y., now featuring a new beverage bar, a made-to-order sandwich station and a much bigger parking lot.
The larger Stewart’s Shop at 51 West Utica St. is located in the college town of 17,000 on the southeastern banks of Lake Ontario. The $3.1 million reconstruction project will allow Stewart’s to better serve the community.
The 4,500-square-foot shop includes more space for fresh fruit and vegetables, plus a wide variety of mac and cheese, soup, sandwiches and the retailer’s award-winning milk and ice cream.
“The new Stewart’s also features a much larger parking lot, and we have added diesel pumps to a gas island that includes premium non-ethanol gas to make it easier for commuters and residents to make a quick stop and get on with their day,” Stewart’s wrote in a statement.
Stewart’s celebrated the reconstruction of its Oswego shop by holding a grand opening on Oct. 10. To help commemorate the event, Stewart’s donated $3,000 to support programs at the Oswego YMCA.
