The designation was awarded by the Wall Street Journal.

Stewart’s Shops’ Mountain Brew private-label beer, after being reimaged and reintroduced, has been named a top private-label beer by the Wall Street Journal. Stewart’s teamed up with Adirondacks craft brewer Paradox Brewery over the winter and created what the Wall Street Journal calls “a refreshing new recipe.”

Stewart’s is among a growing number of retailers “that work closely with craft breweries to produce compelling beers that deliver both value and taste,” the Wall Street Journal wrote this month.

Stewart’s noted that creating a great product with a great value was its primary focus when searching for a way to brew a new private label beer.

The crisp new lager is now available in 19.2-ounce cans at Stewart’s Shops throughout upstate New York and Vermont. The retail price is $2.19 per can or two cans for $4.

“It is an honor that Mountain Brew has been recognized by the Wall Street Journal,” said Stewart’s marketing director Bill Majewski. “I think the secret to our early success is that we found a way to produce a fresh and local beer that also has a great taste and great value for our customers.”

Stewart’s employs 5,500 people who operate more than 400 convenience stores across upstate New York, Vermont and New Hampshire.
