Sunoco Inc. began the six-week planned turnaround of its 160,000 barrel per day refinery in Toledo, Ohio, in early August, Reuters reported.

According to the company’ second quarter earnings call, the turnaround is expected to continue until mid-September, and will close one of the two crude units and the gasoline-making fluid catalytic cracking unit, as well as associated units like the alkylation unit. One of the crude units and the hydrotreater will still be operating, Reuters reported.

The company said crude oil usage rates in the second quarter were 78% and that it expects third quarter rates to be impacted by work at its Toledo and Philadelphia refineries.

In addition, Sunoco said it was taking a month-long turnaround on the gasoline-making fluid catalytic cracking unit at the Girard Point section of the Philadelphia refinery. That unit will go down for work on Friday. Trade sources said that the unit began to prepare for the turnaround last week.
